Nigeria was plunged into darkness again this Tuesday as the national power grid suffered its second major collapse of 2026.
The failure, which occurred around 11:00 AM, saw electricity generation plummet from 4,500MW to a total system blackout of 0MW.
All 23 power plants connected to the grid reportedly went offline, leaving the 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) with zero allocation.
This latest failure comes just days after the year’s first collapse last Friday, and barely a month since a similar incident on December 29, 2025.
While the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that recovery efforts are underway, an official statement regarding the root cause has yet to be released.
Historically, these systemic failures are blamed on aging infrastructure, technical faults, and volatile generation capacity.
