AG Mortgage Bank Plc, in collaboration with HACEY, has kicked off its initiative aimed at celebrating and empowering 500,000 women in Nigeria.
The program commenced with the training of over 700 female small business owners aged 25 to 55 in Lagos.
Launched in October of last year, the initiative seeks to equip these women with essential skills in financial literacy, basic digital skills, and business management.
Additionally, it aims to support their growth and success in a competitive business environment..
Participants received practical training on various topics, including budgeting and record-keeping skills, basic digital tools for marketing and financial growth, and building confidence in navigating financial institutions to manage their finances, open bank accounts, and access other financial services.
“We believe that empowering women with the right skills and knowledge is key to driving economic development in our communities,” said Nwaichi Ngozi Victoria, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Communication at AG Mortgage Bank Plc.
‘’Empowering women creates a ripple effect that benefits families, communities, and the economy as a whole. In recognition of this, we are commencing this initiative aimed at empowering 500,000 women across Nigeria with a total funding of over 100 million naira.
‘’The program includes financial literacy classes, digital skills training, and offers medical support to ensure women are in good health, as well as physical and mental well-being.’
She continued: ‘’After completing the training, participants will have access to microloans at a low interest rate of 2%. This support will be accompanied by mentorship to ensure effective utilization of funds.
‘’Our goal is to empower women to become financially independent and confident leaders in their communities. We aim to support not just women but also to alleviate pressure on men, promoting a balanced and inclusive approach to financial empowerment,’’ Nwaichi ended.
Also speaking, Olubukola Olumuyiwa Oluwabukunmi, Program Manager at HACEY, said: “Through this collaboration, we are taking meaningful steps to ensure that women entrepreneurs have the tools they need to succeed.
