Domestic Equities Decline: Zenith, GTCO Among Bearish Selloffs as NGXASI Drops 0.68%; BDC Rate Hits N1,600/US$1
  1. NGX – Listed Equities

The Nigeria Exchange Group, on Wednesday, closed in the red, retracting the previous session’s gain as investors selloffs IMG (-10.00%), ZENITHBANK (-3.93%), UACN (-1.64%), GTCO (-1.58%), OANDO (-0.92%), and 15 others.

As such, the NGXASI dipped 68 basis points to close at 103,851.88 points, down from 104,560.02 points on Tuesday. Investors lost N444.99bn as Market capitalisation decreased to N65.26 trn, while the year-to-date return fell to 0.90%.

Amidst the downturn, the market breadth closed positively at 0.07x, with 25 gainers against 20 losers. ABBEYBDS, which led the gainers’ chart, traded above its 52-week high to close at N8.15, while IMG topped the losers’ chart.

The total volume traded declined by 4.64% to close at 351.66m, valued at N13.71bn and traded in 12,141 deals. ACCESSCORP was the most traded stock by volume, with 68.20m units traded, while GEREGU was the most traded stock by value, worth 5.14bn.

Volume and Value Contribution

ACCESSCORP was the most traded in volume, with a 19.39% share, while GTCO and FCMB   followed closely with 10.46% and 8.18%, respectively.

GEREGU contributed the most in value traded, with a 37.47% share, while GTCO and ACCESSCORP followed closely.

AFEX Indices

The AFEX ACI and AEI were up 0.97% and 0.01% to close at N66.00 and N73.18.

AFEX Commodity Prices

On Wednesday, the AFEX Commodity Market saw maize, soybeans, and cocoa increase 1.52%, 0.70%, and 0.02% to close at N561.29, N990.21, and N11,182.39.

Global Commodity Prices

The global commodity market was bullish as of 2:30 PM GMT on Wednesday. Gold and Silver increased 2.83% and 1.70% to close at US$3,313.49 and $32.86, respectively.

Brent and WTI crude futures were up 1.78% and 2.90% to close at $65.82 and $62.51, respectively, as the market drew some strength from the possibility of trade talks between China and the United States and a report that Iraq will cut oil production in April.

6.  CURRENCY/ FX MARKET

The average BDC rate appreciated 0.63% from N1,610/USD to N1,600/USD, while the NAFEM rate closed at N1,598.95/USD on Tuesday.
