Domestic Equities Edge Up Amid Mixed Market Sentiment; BDC Rate Appreciates

NGX – Listed Equities

On Tuesday, the domestic bourse eked out a marginal gain, wiping off the previous session’s loss. The All-Share Index appreciated 3 basis points to close at 109,730.47 points, up from 109,697.83 points on Monday, as the year-to-date return increased to 6.61%.

As such, investors gained N20.51bn as market capitalisation rose to N68.97 trn on investors’ interest in NESTLE (+10.00%), UNILEVER (+9.30%), CAP (+7.13%), VITAFOAM (+7.10%), NB (+4.39%),  ETI (+1.72%), GTCO (+1.17%), ZENITHBANK (+0.10%), and 23 others. Investment advisory services

Market sentiment closed flat, with 31 gainers against 31 losers. REGALINS, TRIPPLEG and NESTLE led the gainers’ chart, while BERGER topped the losers’ chart. Meanwhile, NESTLE, UNILEVER, and MCNICHOLS traded above their 52-week highs at N1464.00, N47.00 and N2.54, respectively.

The total volume traded rose by 2.26% to close at 497.06m, valued at N13.21bn and transacted in 18,795 deals. FIDELITYBK closed with the highest volume, with 60.18m units traded, while ARADEL closed with the highest value, amounting to N2.55bn.

The memorandum Proshare price-weighted index fell 0.31% from 657.44 points to 655.38 points, while the Proshare float-adjusted index fell 0.41% to close at 470.50 points from 472.44 points.

Volume and Value Contribution

FIDELITYBK was the most traded in volume, with a 12.11% share, while UBA and CUSTODIAN followed closely with 7.32% and 7.17%, respectively.

ARADEL contributed the most in value traded, with a 19.29% share, while UBA and FIDELITYBK followed closely.

NASD OTC Exchange – Unlisted Equities    

Similarly, the NASD Securities Index (NSI) closed positively, up 0.13%, closing at 3,154.56 points from the 3,150.49 points recorded on Monday.

The total volume traded was 572,645 units, valued at N6.08m, across 20 deals.

At the close of trading, the NASD OTC recorded four (4) gainers and one (1) loser.

AFEX Commodity Prices

On Tuesday, the AFEX Commodity Market was   unchanged.

Global Commodity Prices

The global commodity market was largely bullish as of 2:25 PM GMT on Tuesday. Gold and Silver increased 1.53% and 1.51% to close at US$3,278.87 and $32.84, respectively.

Brent was down 0.75% to close at $65.05, while WTI crude futures were up 0.19% to close at $62.26 due to uncertainty in U.S.-Iran negotiations and Russia-Ukraine peace talks, while new government data delivered a cautious outlook for top crude-importer China’s economy.

CURRENCY/ FX MARKET

Average BDC rates appreciated 0.62% from N1,630/USD to N1,620/USD, while the NAFEM rate closed at N1,598.69/USD on Friday.
