A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nelson Ahamefula Akuma, has said that the conduct of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at Plot 1946, Gaduwa District, Abuja, is one of the many reasons why the United States President, Donald Trump, described Nigeria as a disgraced country.
Recall that the FCT Minister, accompanied by senior officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority, visited the site to halt what he described as an “illegal construction” when he confronted a naval officer allegedly supervising the property.
According to Akuma, Wike’s conduct fell short of what is expected of a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.He said that the Minister’s tone, brashness, and recklessness in public were a disgrace to his exalted office.
He stated that the Minister’s verbal assault on a military officer in uniform was an act of profound indiscipline that strikes at the very foundation of our national security apparatus.
“Sincerely, what I saw that day was a 24-year-old man and a 57-year-old boy. It is wrong for Nyesom Wike to use words like ‘you are a fool’ on a soldier in uniform.
”It is a reckless endangerment of national order. On the other hand, I deeply appreciate the young soldier’s composure in the face of the verbal assault.
”He showed maturity far beyond his age. These are people who have signed to die for the country. So what the Minister was trying to do was to pull the tiger by the tail.”
He said that President Bola Tinubu should rein in the Minister to stop bringing disgrace to his government.
According to him, Wike should tender an unreserved apology to the Nigerian people for his conduct, adding that his recklessness and utterances have gone too far and need to be called to order.
