President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Sunday to prepare for his participation in the 2026 edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), which begins on Monday.
According to a statement from Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu’s plane landed at the Presidential Wing of Zayed International Airport at 11:30 PM local time.
He was welcomed by Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria; Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs; and members of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.
Several other ministers, including Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Planning; Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment; and Ambassador Muhammed Muhammed, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, also welcomed President Tinubu at his hotel.
President Tinubu arrived in Abu Dhabi from Europe, where he spent part of his end-of-year break engaging in productive discussions with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, themed “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,” serves as a global platform that brings together world leaders, policymakers, investors, and experts to promote dialogue and action on sustainable development, climate action, energy transition, and inclusive economic growth.
Onanuga stated that this visit further strengthens the strong diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, while positioning Nigeria as an active participant in global discussions on sustainable development.
