An early morning fire broke out in a one-storey commercial building on Somoye Osundairo Street in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos State, resulting in the destruction of goods worth millions of Naira.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that the incident occurred around 1:55 a.m. on Tuesday, prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from its Command and Control Centre in Alausa.
Upon arrival at the scene, LASEMA’s Response Team observed active flames and dense smoke, indicating intense combustion within the structure.
The high volume of combustible materials contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, although a few firefighters sustained minor injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The agency explained that the entire upper floor of the building was completely destroyed by the fire, along with all goods and properties stored there. The structure has been partially compromised and requires immediate assessment.
The LASEMA response team conducted a risk assessment, cordoned off the affected area, and coordinated a multi-agency response that included the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, and the Nigeria Police Force to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.
“All goods and properties worth millions of Naira stored in the building were totally destroyed by the fire. Firefighting operations have successfully suppressed and contained the blaze within the affected structure, preventing it from escalating to nearby buildings,” the agency stated, adding that damping-down operations were ongoing to prevent re-ignition.
