The Canadian Federal Crown Corporation – Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) has appointed Ekanem Etim, CFA, as Director, Investments, to champion creative financing strategies for CIB projects.
Ekanem would lead the team in attracting private capital for the CIB’s priority sectors, which include transportation, green infrastructure, broadband technology, trade, and clean power.
Ekanem, whose experience spans over a decade in debt and equity capital markets, project finance, and financial advisory, will now oversee efforts to crowd in private and public sector capital for the development of critical infrastructure in Canada.
Before her role at CIB, Ekanem was a Vice President and head of Capital Markets at DLM Advisory, where she helped mobilize $ 1 billion to various governments and corporates across several industries in Africa.
Ekanem has advised on capital raises for various sectors of the Nigerian economy, including transportation, energy, housing, FMCG, education, financial services, and agriculture.
Some of her notable transactions include the $500 million capitalisation of an African energy corporation, the ₦ 16.5 billion bonds issued by Primero BRT Securitisation SPV Plc, the ₦ 110 billion senior unsecured bonds issued by MTN, and the establishment and capitalisation of the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company (NMRC) Plc and the Development Bank of Nigeria, among others.
Ekanem is committed to the CIB’s mission to work with governments, Indigenous communities, and private sector investor partners to transform the way infrastructure is planned, financed, and delivered in Canada.
Recent activities and projects by the CIB include financial close on a $117.4M loan to support the construction of a 94.4-megawatt wind farm in Nova Scotia’s Antigonish and Pictou counties, loan to Enoch Cree Nation of $100M for reserve enabling infrastructure, $217M in equity financing to allow a new transmission line linking Nova Scotia (NS) and New Brunswick (NB).
