Nigerian Bourse’s Bullish Streak Continues, as ASI Up 0.12%; BDC Rate Closed Flat at N1,545/US$1

NGX – Listed Equities

Nigerian domestic bourse closed bullish, building on the marginal gain recorded in the previous session as NGX ASI rose 0.12%, closing at 146,055.89 points from 145,880.77 points on Monday.

The uptrend was driven by renewed interest in JBERGER (+9.99%), LAFARGE (+6.06%), NEM (+5.56%), HONYFLOUR (+4.09%),   UBA (+1.25%), ETI (+1.21%), TRANSCORP (+0.39%), IKEJAHOTEL (+0.24%), and 39 others.

Consequently, investors gained N110.78bn, as market capitalisation increased to N92.41trn, while the year-to-date (YTD) return increased to 41.90%. Made in Nigeria products

The market sentiment closed bullish, with 47 gainers compared to 29 losers, as PRESTIGE, ABCTRANS, WAPIC, SUNUASSUR, MANSARD, ELLAHLAKES, and CHAMPION led the gainers’ list, while JULI led the losers’ list.

Meanwhile, MANSARD, ELLAHLAKES, and VERITASKAP traded above their 52-week highs at N17.71, N16.06, and N2.54, respectively.

The total traded volume declined by 39.63% to close at 1.28bn, valued at N24.25bn in 31,155 deals. LASACO closed with the highest volume, with N107.22m units traded, while GTCO closed with the highest value, amounting to N2.62bn.

Volume and Value Contribution

LASACO was the most traded equity in terms of volume, contributing 8.39% of the total volume traded, while JAPAULGOLD and  STERLINGNG followed with 8.37% and 7.66% of daily traded volume.

GTCO saw the highest traded value, with a 10.82% share of the total value contribution, while DANGCEM and ZENITHBANK followed closely.

NASD OTC Exchange – Unlisted Equities    

Conversely, the NASD Securities Index (NSI) closed bearish, down 1.46% at 3,614.69, from 3,668.39 points on Monday.

The total volume traded was 31.86m, valued at N113.50m across 37 deals.

At the close of trading, the NASD OTC recorded two (2) gainers and four (4) losers.

Global Indices

COMMODITIES MARKET

AFEX Indices

At the AFEX Commodity Market on Tuesday, maize increased 0.92% to close at N394.08, while soybeans and cocoa decreased by 7.18% and 4.02% to close at N730.00 and N11,481.25.

Global Commodity Prices

At the global commodity market, Gold and Silver fell 0.16% and 0.13% to close at US$3,338.90 and US$37.64.

Brent and WTI crude futures decreased 0.65% and 0.92% to close at US$66.20 and US$63.37, as of 2:18 PM GMT on Tuesday, after the United States and China extended a pause on higher tariffs and data showed a rise in U.S. inflation in July.

CURRENCY/ FX MARKET

Average BDC rates closed flat at N1,545/USD, while the NAFEM rate closed at N1,535.93/USD on Monday. For updates on the Nigerian FX Market.
