In a statement released on Wednesday, Dr. M. Shaibu, National President of the Society of Occupational and Environmental Health Physicians of Nigeria (SOEHPON), confirmed that the organization’s National Executive Committee (NEC) is actively monitoring developments alongside key public health stakeholders following the activation of nationwide emergency response protocols.
Dr. Shaibu noted that the Society is tracking the outcome of the Emergency Incident Management Meeting convened at the NCDC Incident Command Centre in Abuja.
He emphasized that no lockdown has been declared in the FCT or anywhere in Nigeria, advising the general public to stay calm, avoid panic, and disregard unverified rumors or misinformation.
Role of Occupational & Environmental Health Professionals
Occupational and Environmental Health (OEH) professionals have an important role to play in supporting preparedness and response efforts, particularly in workplaces and other occupational settings.
This includes advising management on appropriate preventive measures, strengthening workplace infection prevention and control practices, promoting risk communication, and monitoring the implementation of relevant health and safety protocols.
SOEHPON is actively monitoring developments and will provide relevant professional guidance and updates as necessary, based on verified information and official public health advisories
Public Health Advisory
Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to public health advisories and infection prevention and control measures issued by the NCDC and other relevant public health authorities.
Everyone is encouraged to avoid spreading unverified information and to seek guidance from credible official sources.
Further updates will be communicated as more verified information becomes available.
SOEHPON remains committed to promoting occupational and environmental health, protecting workers and communities, and supporting evidence-based public health action.
